Crosby Stills and Nash. Either off their CSN album or their Deja-vu album. Both are great.
I could go look it up but it's too far away. But I think it's the CSN album.

Sometimes, I get those days that I cant stand my long hair, but I learned a lesson about 2 years ago, when I went in a shop, and told them I wanted my hair cut a certain way, and then they handed me a mirror, and said hows this?...with one side cut, and one not, yet!!! I almost fell off the chair when I saw how uneven and stupid it looked, but what are you suppose to say? What in the blank did you do? I just said, ok, and prayed it would get better! When she was all done, (And I didn't think it could get that much worse), but....it did, oh yes, it most certainly did!! I could of cried , but instead, I was polite, and paid her and said, Ill get used to it I guess, but I never did! I just put up with it the best I could till it grew back. Finally, I at least learned a lesson, and will never do THAT again!! When you have a bad hair day, think of this story!!!

Go to a nice salon (not cheap, but you get better results- usually they'll have at least one new stylist and they don't charge as much. Their work is usually just as good, but they don't have a regular clientele yet so they charge less. Tell them you'd like a short cut, but you're a little apprehensive. Then they can cut a little bit at a time until it's a comfortable length for you. This is more comfortable for the stylist as well because nothing scares them more than doing something drastic (i.e. v. long to v. short) and having the client hate it. Since you've had your hair long for a while and you don't know how to style short hair, I suggest asking for a cut that is easy to style (specifically say this!!!) and ask the hairdresser to show you (step-by-step) how to style it. If they suggest a certain type of product (i.e. pomade as opposed to gel) listen to them, they know what they're talking about. And, if possible, stay with the same hairdresser. If you keep going to the same person, you get to know them and they will usually really care about you and your hair. My sister's hairdresser had her come back to the salon for 3 consecutive weeks (free of charge) because he wasn't satisfied with how the cut came out. Also, that stylist will know what works with your hair without you having to tell them. And it's very freeing to know that you can go in, say, "Just do something cool," and have it come out good. I've done that a few times.

Good for you! I'm glad you didn't cut it. It sounds like you probably would have regreted it.
Next time you get the urge to cut use the two week rule. Think about getting your hair cut for two weeks and if at any time you waver about getting the cut start the clock over. Then you'll be sure that it's something you truely want to do.
In the meantime look online for some cute updos to keep it out of your way. I'm not sure what length you have but I know that there's a multitude of great styles out there.
