If you marry him, you won't need to adopt her, because she will legally be your daughter. If you adopt her, then she will be your child regardless if you are married.

Why dont you marry the guy first then adopt.. What happens when you two break up (not saying you will).. You are stuck taking care of a kid that isnt yours. Because legally if you guys break up and he has custody of that child I believe he can have you pay child support.. Plus in order to do that you need to get the Bio mother to give up rights to the child first or the courts have to find her incapable of having custody of the child..

So my suggestion is get married first then adopt. And do alot of thinking and ask a ton of questions..

Depends...what does the biological mother think of it ? What are you going to do if you and your boyfriend break up ? Your legally and financially obligated to that child...so guess what...boyfriend leaves with daughter, you have to pay child support since your legally its mother. It may sound like a good idea but do some research first, try asking a lawyer, not a yahoo answer board.

stillson you are wrong, i have been a step mom for 3 years(married to him) you are never their parent, and as far as the state thinks you are only a caregiver to that child nothing more.
yes you have to be married to the bio parent for at least a year. ive been contemplating this for a few yrs now, i would definetly do some research, and tlak to a lawyer who specialises in step parent adoptions

Depending in the state you live in, no. My boyfriend is adopting my newborn son. The papers have been signed and filed.

No, you would just need his consent and the mother's consent if she has any parental rights.
