Kitten chow. Kittens need more nutrients than adult food can provide, and food that is formulated for kittens is also softer and easier for them to chew and swallow.

P.S. At this young age you can mix a little bit of kitten formula with the kitten chow to encourage them to eat it.

First off why was the kitten separated from its mother so early? Kittens generally start eating between 3 and 4 weeks of age. He is probably not getting enough from your bottle feeding to satisfy him at 6 weeks. Use a mushy canned food, not one with chunks. Put a bit in the kittens mouth and put the kittens nose to the food. Do this a couple times a day. If this does not work try baby food meat (turkey works well) and do the same thing. You might even mix some formula in with the baby food to make it like a very thick soup. Slowly add less and less formula and gradually switch to canned food. Once the baby eats the canned you may be able to switch to a bowl of formula slowly watering it down until at about 12 weeks it is only water.

They can but it may be a little hard for them yet since they don't have all their teeth. I fed my kittens a mixture of solid kitten chow mixed with water to make it mushy or I also tried solid kitten food and mixed it with canned kitten food. Iams makes a really good kitten food in a pouch but its a tiny bit expensive so if money is an issue I would try one of the other two options.

My six year old cats were both eating solid by about 5 weeks. I spoiled my 16 year old cat. I wet down his food (with either water, milk, or canned food, depending on what I could afford) until he was 6 months old. (he thinks I gave birth to him. I don't have the heart to tell him he's adopted) Basically, it depends on the cat. They are physically capable of eating dry food at that age, though.

Yes they can..my kittens started eating hard food at about 5 weeks old.Hard food has a lot more nutrition in it than soft food does..so I wouldn't bother feeding them anything other than a high quality hard kitten food if it looks like they aren't having any trouble eating it.
