How do I install it? Should I install it? What version should I get? Can I still use the programs I already use on Windows on Linux? I hear about more and more people using Linux, and I want to know if I should be one of them.

Linux (often pronounced LIH-nuhks with a short "i") is a Unix-like operating system that was designed to provide personal computer users a free or very low-cost operating system comparable to traditional and usually more expensive Unix systems. Linux has a reputation as a very efficient and fast-performing system. Linux's kernel (the central part of the operating system) was developed by Linus Torvalds at the University of Helsinki in Finland. To complete the operating system, Torvalds and other team members made use of system components developed by members of the Free Software Foundation for the GNU Project.

Linux is an alternative operating system, and you can use linux for pretty much everything u use Mac OS X or Windows for. There are different programs for each operating-system, though there are many cross-platform-programs released (such as FireFox or something like that) You may need different Linux-Distributions for doing things like network-penetration or security-testing.. Linux can be strongly modified and configured. So u can install Linux on very old machines as well, or on (home)servers.. it even can be runned from a optical medium or a usb-drive

Linux is a computer operating system like (but totally different) windows. Most windows programs will not work with Linux. Linux comes in all kinds of "flavors" and most versions are free. It's a matter of preference. Linux tends to be more resistant to computer viruses.

Try Puppy Linux. You can download it for free and it is small, about 80 megs. It can be run solely from the RAM or even from the CD itself. It is everything Windows is not, reliable, quick, easy to upgrade. Alsao, there is a free program called WINE that will allow you to run a lot of PC programs in Linux. Finally you might download SLAX KILLBILL which is made to run only on Ram and it will allow you to use some Windows program immediately

Linux has a thing were you put some stuff on a blank cd, (burning it on the cd) and you put it in and it starts linux. Then if you do not like it, you can just take it out and still use windows.
