Bush and his immigration policy supporters constantly use this phrase as a reason for giving citizenship to people here illegally and why he is not concerned about people that we know nothing about sneaking into our country. I was just wondering what exactly this is supposed to mean.

What exactly do family values have to do with knowing who come into your country? What are these family values that people that sneak into the country illegally have that people that immigrate legally or are citizens that are returning home don't have?

Do family values stop at the airport or other places where you have to show ID or have a backgrand check before entering? Next time I'm asked for a passport to enter a coutry can I use my family values as a reason to not show a passport?

Articles like this seem to show a lack of what I would consider family values.

no i think the family values he is talking about are the ones where they will work 16 hours a day cleaning floors and toilets for 25 dollars a day for people that make 60 million a year

Family values? That's such a heart-warming sentiment. Family values may not stop at the Rio Grande, but the territorial United States does. Mexico could do more to enhance its' support of 'family values' by teaching things like birth control, and economics. That way, it'd have roughly the same number of citizens as there are jobs, and not the gross imbalance we see today that's been spurred on by all the economic development money that's been redirected from american families to mexican families by some of our politicians with pro-business leanings whose major interest in 'family values' is honestly sale prices at Wal-Mart.

Mexico needs to have enough of an economy to support its' citizens. That's your real 'family value'. Mexico already has a 1 trillion dollar annual GDP. In english, that means that there's wealthy people in mexico that give a **** NOT about 'family values', and frankly it's not america's job to pick up their slack.
Build the US/Mexico border fence and let Mexico take care of its' own 'family values'. We've given them enough money already, it's time for them to stand up and build their own schools and hospitals etc. They can start their own businesses and companies, do all the same stuff we do in the United States.
Then, they can support their own families instead of expecting americans to do it for them....
