Here's the thing that no one wants to admit: cutting is a valid coping mechanism. The bottom line is that cutting *works*. It calms you down and does what a coping mechanism is supposed to do: help you cut. Its definitely not the healthiest coping mechanism, but I know some people believe - that if used properly, so to speak, and if you are under a therapist's care - that it can be used, sparingly, in a healthy way. [That said, I am NOT saying I agree with that and I do NOT condone cutting!]

But the thing is, it scares people. People don't understand cutting and, because people are scared of things they don't understand, it terrifies them. So, that's the big deal. But its a judgement - and judgment's aren't always right.

If you truly believe you are okay, then okay.

Why do you want to hurt yourself. Please answer, so I can understand...
I would worry that I might cut the wrong place a little too deep...
Besides I respect my body, and I respect myself, and yes, they are two different things. (By myself I mean my spirit...) I don't need to hurt either. I am trying to eat healthy and take care of it the best I can. (And then I think about those people with cancer and such, they'd love to have a healthy body... you can bet they wouldn't be trying to hurt/destroy it.)
I hope you and your friends stop.Good Luck.

UPDATE: Ok, so I went back up and read some of the others - who said there is a deeper hurt. Sounds right to me. I am sorry about whatever is hurting you. Like they said, please seek out some help. Journaling helps to recognize the source of those negative emotions... maybe you can learn to share your feelings/ emotions in a more constructive way, like forming a support group for other kids who are hurting like you.

If you want to get release, enjoyment or pleasure from pain, why does it have to be destructive? You can experience real pain in a constructive way with hard exercise. cutting yourself just seems a bit drastic. I injected heroin for 26yrs {up until 14 yrs ago} and it is only now that I am realising the effects of that abuse, I have lots of unsightly scarring on my arms, legs, hands, feet, and numerous other places on my body. I now have really bad circulation in my arms and legs. I am a guitarist, and because i've ruined most of the blood vessels in my hands and arms it is
increasingly hard for me to play for any length of time....that may not sound like a very high price to pay...but for me it is. The psychological effects are bad too,..but you and your friends wont understand these until it's too late. I did'nt see my way of life as a problem either.....good luck I'll pray for you guys.

Cutting is a form of numbing feelings. Pain, anxiety, fear and others. It's the same as numbing with drugs or alcohol. Rather than dealing with what is causing the feeling, you cut and the focus is now on the cutting

How do I know? I do.

The big deal is that it could become a habbit. I did a few times. I felt kinda better. I also erased my skin too. Gangs do that stuff. Now I look at my arm and wish I could have stopped, because now I'm running out of bracelets to cover all the scars.

Cutting is usually caused by deep pain that is being inflicted by another person. I have a friend who came from a severely abusive family. She said that because she could not control the horrific abuse, she cut. It was pain that she was able to control.

If you are a cutter (the term for someone who does this), something is wrong. People do not do this to themselves for no reason at all. Please get help. If the cutting is severe enough, you could die. My friend lost her twin sister that way.

I cut...I'm ok too (control wise)..for now anyway..but its gotten a little worse over time and I know that if I don't stop soon, suddenly I wont have any control over it at all and someday i'll be in too deep....literally. Try to quit before things get out of hand.

to be honest you and your friends are not ok,how do i know this, because i am a former cutter. i had been doin that since i was 8,and still have bouts with it in my forties. I understand why you do but you and your friends need to find a different way to cope. try a red pen or crayon, there are sits on the interenet that can help you. i don't know how old you are but ive been there and still goin through things. its not worth it,find someone who you can confide in.

No. you are not okay. Normal, healthy people do not cause bodily injury to themselves on purpose. That is something that people with mental disorders do, and you and you friends are mentally ill. You can keep trying to justify it, and in your head you will, but it will never be socially acceptable.
