It used to be that stewardesses (flight attendants) were very pretty young women. And in most of Asia, this is still true (look at the "Singapore girls" for Singapore Airlines, for example!)
But nowadays in the US they are just average and many of them are quite old.
Why did we let this happen?

Once upon a time women thought the had little choice in careers other than becoming teachers, nurses, stewardesses and a few others. Now, young women can do anything they want so there are fewer available to take those jobs.
Also, I think people are more rude than a generation ago and fewer attractive women want to put up with their crap. If some guy is ogling you at 30,000 feet, where are you going to go?

We have laws against age discrimination. Also in the U.S., being a flight attendant is not the most prestigious job. In countries such as Asia, being a flight attendant gives a person much respect. Plus Asian carriers hand-pick the best looking flight attendants and put them through a rigorous training program. Singapore Airlines has one of the most strict training regimes for its flight attendants. That is why you expect and will receive good service when you fly Singapore Airlines.

The US didn't do away with pretty flight attendants. The same women that looked hot in the 70's are still there and looking not so hot as they approach age 60.

Because working for a commerical airlines doesn't have the appeal it had in the '50s and '60s.

The ACLU made this happen. Something to do with age discrimination. You would think these old bags would find another job some place else.

because of pay and sexual harrasment laws and lawsuits laws are different in other countries wHere sex is used to define your job and pay Way to go dont you think
