Some people have the warped notion that they can drive better than anyone even when they are slopped. Some turn their care button off when they are drinking. Some don't value their lives or the lives of those they share the road with. And some have never learned that the rules are the same for everyone and laws are for the protection of everyone.

I drink but I can't drive, but I do understand your question. Everyday we read about something or other about a drink/driving offence and while they have killed, the driver gets off with 2 - 3 yrs jail, which means they will be out in half the time! It's not right, it's not justice for the families who have lost a loved one (many of them are children).

Its stupidity.

The older generation (like my dad) thought nothing of going out to the local pub and driving home, there were no laws against it back then and besides which people tended to drink less. They went out for a quiet pint or so to meet their mates and socialise rather than with the express object of getting absolutely sh*t-faced as many people do today.

Having worked in a pub for years I have seen stupid people staggering out with their car keys in the hands and even then there is very little incentive for bar staff to try to confiscate their keys or call the police to inform them that someone who is completely pissed is about to try and drive home.

My boyfriend, a head barman, actually got reprimanded by his boss because he rang the police to report that some idiot who was completely rat-arsed was staggering outside to his car to drive home!!!! His boss said it would breed resentment among customers and look bad on the pub, but I rather think that the chance he might have SAVED someone's life from this drunken idiot shows responsibility and caring on behalf of the pub and its staff!!!

Alcoholism is a mental illness, according to the AMA. All too often, when they get popped for drunk driving, they jump right back in and do it again as soon as they get their keys back. So, I guess, I don't really have an answer for you. It's like many mental illnesses, they don't have full control of their senses.

'nuff said?

Selfish idiots.... I don't think they understand the repercussions. My sister used to do it and I couldn't stand it, not because I was scared for her safety but scared for all the innocent people around her, on the pavement or other cars passengers. Alcohol makes people feel more cofident so they think they can handle a car. How wrong can they be?

Much of the time they realize they are drunk but do not care what happens to them. Maybe they are drinking out of depression or have no fear of death

Because their selfish bastards. And they should go to jail, I think it should be a felony to drive drunk.

I don't know there is an answer for that question. I feel there needs to be stricter laws on the books for offenders.

because people assume they aren't as drunk as they really are.
