I have struggled with the belly bulge too.

I recently made some dietary and exercise changes, and they're really working. Here's what I do:

1. I don't eat ANY foods which have corn syrup as an ingredient. Check the ingredients list when you buy products at the grocery store. Corn syrup is just sugar, and one of the worst sugars for you. It's in so many foods - even ones that aren't sweet.

2. I try to have lean protein with every single meal. That could mean an egg, skinless chicken breast, fish, or nuts (like almonds or walnuts).

3. I drink lots of water. I really have to force myself to do this.

4. I avoid foods that have saturated fats or trans fats.

5. Instead of sweets for dessert, I have fresh fruit.

6. I vary my workout routine. I used to only jog, but it wasn't really doing the trick. So I bought a set of 3 workout videos that involve cardio, calisthenics and resistance training ("Billy's Boot Camp," actually.) Now I run 2 or 3 times a week, but do one of the workout videos on alternate days for a total of 5 workouts a week. The result has been pretty positive after only about 2 weeks. I am slimmer, my arms don't sag nearly as much, and I feel great.

7. I meditate every day. I always thought meditation was silly, but there is a hormone called cortisol that your body releases when you are stressed. Cortisol causes you to gain weight - especially around your belly. It's hard to reduce stress because you can't always change the things in your life that are causing you stress. So I'm trying meditation to reduce stress instead.
