My son is 3 and half and he still isn't potty trained. Any tips on how to get him started?

Don't push him if he's not ready. Start talking about it and have dad show him how it's done. If he shows an interest in it then start teaching him. If he does show an interest and you have him try it and he starts to not like it so much then stop. You don't want to ever push kids when it comes to these things. Here it is- it has worked for my 2 kids,and others after I tell them........

1. get m and m's handy
2. get a small potty chair
3. get a couple books about potty
4. you need to be home for about 4-5 days straight
5. now you can start. let them run around bare-but
6. Set the timer for 1/2 hour. Tell him/her to sit on the potty for 5 min. (read them a book in the mean time if it's to long for them.) If they go, give lots and lots of praise!!! I mean go crazy!! Give them about 3 m and m's.
7. Set the timer for 1/2 hour
8. Avoid asking the question "you got to go potty?'
9. Timer goes off- ok! What does that mean junior? Time to go potty again he or she would say, or you say it if they don't
10. repeat process all day long. If they go # 2 in the potty, reward with a handful of m and m's. They are very colorful and kids love them!!

11. Praise praise praise. I do spank my kids for behavior problems such as lying, disobedience, and bad attitudes, but never for having an accident. If there is an accident, clean it up queitly, and don't say much at all. Remind them it's ok, but try to make it in the potty next time, or in your own words.

Put him in a pair of underwear and tell him he can't pee in them because they are not a diaper. Tell him when you have the underwear on you tell me when you have to potty and we will go use the potty. I did this with my 3 year old son and it worked he is now 4 and he has had only 3 accidents none of those have been overnight.

I really couldn't give you too much information on the potty training thing, but every time he goes for the potty and actually goes give him some sort of treat for it. When he goes in his diaper instead show him in your own way that you don't like it.

Make a game out of it. Tell him he'll be able to play with his toys if he uses the potty when he needs to. Make it a routine--and he'll get the idea.

easy.. buy him a potty and introduce it to him.. let him get used to it and then i wud suggest you get some potty training dvd at your local library which i know they have cos we have been using it on our 2 yr old and she is doing great. be patient.. lot sof accidents but with time love and tenderness er'thing will be okay.

i had the same problem, this worked for me. i told him that there was a man that lived in the toilet, and that all that this man had to eat was the pee pee and the stinky that all of us had to get rid of, and the only way we could keep this man from becoming the stinky monster, was to feed him every day, and that as soon as he did this and got it right that we could send him to preschool, but he had to learn to feed the stinky monster first.
this lady told me about this, and i thought that she was out of her mind, till at my last straw i tried it and it worked like a charm.
im now a big beliver in the stinky monster!

make a game for going to the bath room.. but Cheerios or something small and flush able in the toilet and tell him to aim at them!.. i tell ya it works
