Hi,
My sister had her wisdom teeth removed about 4 weeks ago, July 28, 2006. She had her teeth cleaned on thursday, August 10th, 2006. Thereafter, her face has started to swell on the right side of her face. She had two extracted from the right side and one from the left. I am a little concerned as to if this is an infection or caused by the cleaning and will go away? Please help me out.
Thank you.

Call the dentist who did the removal ASAP. Yes, she could have an infection and needs the appropriate medication. IF you cannot reach that dentist, call the one who did the dental cleaning.

Swelling is a sign that something is wrong! Her health is at issue. Why? Because it could effect the heart and other vital organs.

CALL YOU FAMILY DOCTOR RIGHT NOW!!!!

It probably is caused by another tooth that is infected. We can probably rule out the wisdom teeth and the cleaning. Call your dentist and get on antibiotics and get an appointment for an evaluation. Hope this helps.

If she starts running a fever or the pain gets severe take her to the emergency room or immediate care.
