The corporate office is in Illinois

depends on where your residence is. If you are an illinois resident and were in TX temporarily, then IL gets the tax. If you are a TX resident, your home free cuz TX doesnt have an income tax. If you were a resident in both states, then IL will get a pro rata amount. The corporate office location has no bearing.

Most states tax income earned in the state regardless of residence. Income earned out of state by a resident is usually taxed, but a credit is given for taxes paid to the state in which it was earned. I don't know about either Texas or Illinois.

If you worked and temporairly resided in Illinois for several months, then you are prone to report taxabable earnings made in that state. However, the following--all made during that time, you can find tax exemptions: hotel receipts, restaurant / grocery receipts, laundry receipts, car fuel receipts, car repair receipts.

This information is very resourceful towards tax exemptions in your favor, once they are matched against the checkstub earnings statements made during your time working for the company in Illinois.

I'd also look into obtaining online an Illinois state tax form next tax season and be on the lookout for documentating your receipt exemptions on the Federal form, too. A trained CPA can better assist you with this.

Well, there is no state income tax in TX, but you are supposed to file for IL state income tax if you make money there. When you were in IL, did you get a pay stub that has tax withheld for IL? If so, you better file with IL since you are already in their system. If not, if the amount you earned while in IL is significant, you should file for IL too.
