I don't know what town you're in but you should look up the Plato's Closet near you. There are over 150 stores around the country.
If you need some cash, go through your overflowing closet and bring in your cool stuff. They pay you cash on the spot for the items they can sell.
They're a unique recycling retail store just for teens and young adults (girls junior sizes 00-15/16 and guys waist sizes 28-38/40) — they buy and sell the latest looks in gently used clothing and accessories from the hottest names, including Abercrombie etc.
Do you like Abercrombie, Hollister and American Eagle but don't want to pay mall prices?
It's not your typical resale store. If you shop there you'll get a lot of clothes for a little cash!

Goodwill stores would be glad to get them. In our community some of the churches have "free yard sales" which means just what it says. Come look and take what you need. A neighborhood could do this too.
Join an internet Freecycle group and list items on it. These are all over the country. Find a group in your area.

There are so many places: Salvation Army, Goodwill, local domestic violence shelters, Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
Think of a cause that you support, and donate to them. There are also local child crisis centers, hospitals that need items for ICU wards, basically call and ask if they need your stuff.
For books, donate them to your local public library. They like accepting books to add to their collection. Magazines can be donated to your local public school for arts and crafts projects.
The sky is the limit. Call around and take your stuff where you'll feel good about it!

I donate all my stuff I don't use anymore to the battered womens shelter. They always need things. Not just for women for children and etc.
Or theres the United Way.
