Take Texas for instance. The Fish and Game department does a census every year to determine the deer populations. They then knowing the grazing acreage of each county set limits for each county to reflect the population. While in Alabama they take the whole state and determine since they believe there is an overpopulation they set a daily bag limit. Texas is a case study on how to do it correctly.

It's not the one person killing the entire population. It's the hundreds or thousands of people that would say " I only want one" Then you look up and the entire population is wiped out.
Deer in some areas they have limits on the sex. You can get a license to hunt a doe with a rifle or a buck with a bow. This is to ensure there are plenty of males to impregnate females. So they insist the bucks are hunted with bows. This was the answer they gave. Saw this on the sports channel.

It all has to do with "management".In Pa,alone,on the first day of hunting season there are 1 million..yep,you heard right,1 million hunters alone in the woods..make sure to wear a full orange pumpkin suit..ha ha! Can you imagine if we just hunted everyday and there was no limits?Maine does not have as many hunters in the woods come hunting season but there are alot and there is a lot of info on the different state wildlife websites which could be very useful for your research paper. Enjoy doing it! Here's a good link:

hunting limits are there to protect and control the animal population.....
Many species of animals have been hunted to extinction and others die off from starvation due to not enough food because of over population.
I am an avid hunter..this isn't a means to control guns..it is a means to keep the availablity of animals open for future seasons and stop poaching (illegal hunting out of season or without a license).

What do you think happened to the buffalo? The DNR regulates the population, they issue the maximum amount of permits that would encourage a steady repopulation.

Well, you might not kill the whole population, but there are some people who would do that, and they try, but that's why there is also Game Comission officers.

you may personally only take say 4 animals, but when everyone takes four animals, the population is desecrated, so hunting limits are imposed
