I've been house shopping and checking the registries for the different areas. Imagine my shock when the friend of my (now ex)boyfriend came up! We hung out together a lot. I emailed him about it and he told me the whole story--underage girl claimed to be of age, just got out of the military, girl bragged, parents found out, etc. I believe him.
My point is not to focus in too much on the registry, there are stories behind every one of those names. Instead, look at the number of registered people in a given area. I noticed some areas seem to have significantly more than others. If you find this to be true about your house, move.

I live with a so-called "rapist" (false accusation 20 years ago). No, he isn't a rapist (he's a sweetheart!), and I would think that many on the registries who are convicted of rape are equally innocent. (Many times men plead guilty because they have an overworked public defender and the DA is threatening decades in jail. )
However, I do know there are rapists out there, and that is probably your genuine concern.
I would search Megan's List for men in your area who have been convicted, and then go down to the county courthouse and examine their criminal records - they're public documents, although in my state you must let them write your name down and verify your driver's license. That way you can see the circumstances of the case. Not all states may allow you to see the records, though.
However, in no way should you harass, initimidate or otherwise pressure these men and their families. As I stated before, I am with an accused rapist, and it is really hard dealing with the public. The neighbors look at us suspiciously, the detective to whom he deals with when registering threatened him and me, and I worry constantly about vigilantism. And he's innocent! What a world!

call your local sherrifs department on Monday morning...ask for the website to show a map of the area you live in where the registered sex offenders live. It is a freedom of information act issue. IT IS YOUR RIGHT TO KNOW and most technologically advanced sherrifs departments (They are the ones who organize and watch said sex offenders) will have one on a web site or be able to direct you in the right direction.

Sex offenders have to register, and a rapist would fit that description. The local law enforcement (Sheriff dept.) would have that info and if it's online they'll give ya the site.

I think it's sexualpredators.com. If I'm right, you should be able to punch in your city/state and find s.p.'s in your area.
