you could apply the gel, then if you have a defuser attachment for your hair dryer, use it.

Try using shockwave products dont just use a gel use a styling wax on back for spikes then spray with a gel spray as this hardens leaving the spikes with a stronger definition,hence making the front look dryer and softer.Take time to experiment with different products till you find the most suitable for you.
