Don't worry, the pain isn't staying the whole time. Your teeth will feel normal again. It'll take some getting used to, but you'll be okay. The initial pain is probably the worst, it shouldn't last too long, a few days to a few weeks, as people vary. The tightenings are unpleasant too, I'm sorry to say. But the pain shouldn't last as long, a couple of days or so. Don't be scared, the tightening itself is okay, it's that the pain sets in after a while as your teeth are adjusting to the tighter setting. Well, that's my two cents on that, I hope you're feeling better sooner than later. Just think how gorgeous your smile will be. I never did this, but you should take a before and after picture. Hang in there, it'll get better!!!

My son started his braces this past Monday (six days ago). He takes Advil and says he has little pain or numbness. From my own experience over forty years ago the pain and numbness were just bearable and went away after a month or so.

After getting them first on the pain will go away in a week to two weeks tops.
When you get them tightened it will be just a tight feeling pain and when you bite down on hard food it hurts, that will go away a few days after each tightening and eventually it will just hurt the next day.

Well maybe they'll be fine once you break them in, and then hurt whenever the doctors tighten them afterwards. Atleast thatz wat my friends tell me.
