To ease stress on the knees while running, it is recommended that you build your quadriceps and hamstring muscles using weights. Weak quads will cause the knee to track improperly while running, causing pain.
But for now, you could try water aerobics or the elliptical machine. Or walking is GREAT!!

Try Denise Austin's "Blast Away the Pounds: Indoor Walk". It's an awsome fitness DVD and it's available at Walmart or even www.walmart.com for only $10. It's very low impact and you actually lose weight too! It's not just walking on the spot. She gets really creative with the walking and makes a great workout out of it!

I am a runner, but have been tendonitis in one ankle. So, when I need a cardio workout but want low-impact for my ankle, I go ROLLERBLADING!!! Plus, at 10 mph, you can burn over 400 calories per hour!

I joined Curves fitness center for women about two years ago, and I really enjoy it. You get cardio and strenght training together, without stress on your joints. You should look into it, they have franchises all over the country.

my favorite is walking with one barbell weight... I switch it between hands after each set... great cardio, plus you can switch up between curls and other arm workouts, gets you two in one!
