Last night, i took Lexapro for the first time, and got really really sick.. I decided not to take that anymore, and to take Xanax only.. I have not been taking Xanax, everyday just when needed.. But, my doctor told me to take it 3 times a day, and also try lexapro.. My question is if i start taking 2 a day maybe even 1, wouldn't it work just as good as lexapro.. I mean i just have panic attacks, sometimes, but i have a lot of anxiety!!! I really did not want to get on a ssri medication becuase of weight gaiin and side effect.. But i told myself give lexapro a chance, but then when i woke up at 5am and felt sick and almost passout.. it may me realize how much i don't want to be on it... So, from anyone's experiance.. How does, 2.5 xanax work for you, when you take it everyday??? Does, it work just as good as lexapro??

Lexapro is an antidepressant, Xanax is for anxiety, your doctor must have put you on Lexapro because being depressed causes anxiety. Call the doctor and tell him about it making you sick. Maybe a different kind will work better. I take both.

All ssri's have drug reaction indicators.Your doc is the best to judge your dosage.....Maybe he can step down the dosage .You say you just started the Lexapro ... I believe it takes about 10 days to work the way it should .Always follow the directions for use and don't stop taking it with out telling your doctor . Not all ssri's cause weight gain ....... Keep up a healthy exercise program and eat healthy ..I know that depression can cause a person to just veg out and become inactive .The meds should assist in lifting your spirits and you help the medication by a healthy lifestyle and eating well .depending on those efforts you can be off of those meds in a shorter time than you suspected .See your Doctor and follow his directives .

not being a physician, but as a bi-polar diagnosed for 25 years, I can tell you that I take lexapro for an antidepressant and I take Klonipin (generic..clonazapan for anti-anxiety). Most of the people Iknow who take an anti-anxiety med take ativan or its generic Lorazapan. I have never heard of anyone getting sick on Lexapro, but there are wonderful anti-depressants like Zoloft, etc. Be sure that you are seeing a good psychiatrist and not an intern or general practioner......they know very little about psyche meds.

You should never start, stop or change this type of medication without first consulting your doctor.

You are taking two totally different kinds of medication.

lexapro is an antidepressant and xanax is for anxiety attacks.

If you are experiencing sickness from the meds then try drinking a glass of milk with them.
Your prescription will say that upset stomach is one of the side effects of this medication and will usually go away after awhile of taking it.
If it does not then consult your doctor.

but do not stop taking it until you give it a chance and/or talk to your doctor.

Number One: you should be asking your prescribing doctor these questions, not Yahoo Answers. Why do I say that? I am a retired mental health practitioner with 20+ years experience, who worked with psychiatric clients as well, and I know the trouble caused when clients / patients decide to do their own prescribing by taking what they feel like or what others tell them to instead of what the doctor ordered. If you're having trouble with any meds the doctor prescribed, and it's not an adjustment to the new meds which will go away in a day or so, then stop taking the meds until you talk to your prescribing doctor again. Number Two: When I was working in the mental health setting, we went to what we called "Grand Rounds" which was a gathering of the psychological and psychiatric staff wherein we presented our clients' information to the group and got professional feedback. I can remember on one occasion we had a new, young, and very intelligent psychiatrist with us who had joined our staff within the previous month, and as we were presenting client information on one woman who was taking Xanax, he said, and I quote verbatim: "I've never called a medicine 'a medicine from hell', but if I were to call a medicine 'a medicine from hell', Xanax would be it." I remember agreeing with him wholeheartedly, as did much of the other staff members because it seemed that the Xanax was as unstable as the clients they were prescribed for, and oftentimes the unstable clients would just take the medicine when they felt like it, or according to a friend or family member's recommendation rather than a doctor's prescription. That is a prescription for failure in treatment, and eventually we did initiate "failure to follow prescribed treatment" as a reason for discontinuing treatment for that client altogether. So, hear what I've said about Xanax, and hear what I've said about following prescriptions and following treatment or talking directly with your prescribing doctor before you develop your own prescription. If treatment fails according to your prescription, you can only sue yourself, if you're still alive. God Bless you.
