file sharing isn't illegal, but sharing copyrighted material is - people very rarely use this kind of technology to share free legal material so that's why p2p is always associated with illegal practices.
as a general rule of thumb, at the moment people who are doing the sharing tend to be the ones nailed by the riaa/mpaa etc rather than casual downloaders.

No dear file share isnt..........The content of file make it illegal....
its not illegal to share pics of your family and friend. But share a copyright version of Win XP. is illegal.

File sharing is the same as putting the file on a CD. You can put your own pictures and movies on a CD and give them to friends. You can't copy SIMS on to a CD and give it to friends legally.

this is a common mmisconception. if p2ps were illegal they wouldnt exist. however. while it is legal to download from a p2p filesharing program such as frost wire limewire or ares, it IS illegal to let other people download from you. by unsharing your files when you download them, you can insure that such illegality is avoided.

No as long as it isnt copywrited, the bigger concern is, do you want to share files with users you dont know? These sites are where the majority of malware comes from!
