I am not trying to start fights or put people down or anything, i would just like to know what people mean when they say that if you actually do research and stuff and make an informed decision you will come to the belief that there is no God. I have been doing lots of research and am not coming to that same conclusion. I am not talking about what the Bible says either, i am talking science. I have been a Christian all my life(21), and have recently had a small glimpse of worry that could have turned into doubt, but further research into science has just increased my faith.

ProudStud- You can trust me that i looked into pure science, not books or anything like that are written to make you believe in God. I can see from some of your past questions that you think evolution is a big factor in disproving that God created us. I like physics for some reason, and i have allways been interested in Einstein's work, and i have learned about time being different for people depending on velocity and gravity. It is very well possible that if there is more life on some far away planet, that a person's life that lived there, while seeming to them like a full and complete life like ours, could take place in the blink of our eyes, or vice verca. Getting back to the point on how that relates to evolution, since time has no effect on God, he is working above the laws of physics, what us humans percieve as being a very long period of time it took for evolution to take place, for God it could have just seemed like a blink of an eye.

Cow and Chicken- I am assuming that the book you told me to check out shows how American religious groups do stuff that are hypocratic and wrong. I am not arguing for religious groups, because they are swayed by mans greed. Just as communism practiced in true form has nothing wrong with it, but once mans greed comes in, it can become very bad.

Mr. Mister- I dont really know why i have angered you, i am assuming it is because i have brought science into my beliefs of God. That may or may not anger God, but i think he would rather have that then me turning away from my beliefs totally. And then you get into Judging me by saying Jesus will turn me away, i hope i make it into heaven, but that is neither your or my decision to make. But tread carefully, if i recall correctly, it says in the Bible something along the lines of "you will be judged to the extent that you judge others."

Paul S- It seems to me that you have no evidence that God doesnt exist, it is just your "faith" that God doesnt exist, because you feel that with science, there is no need for God. I thought you may actually be a scientist when i first read your answer, but i now hightly doubt it after you openly called your colleauges wrong for their beliefs. You would think they are wrong, and try to come up with proof to show them, but you cant, so you would not call them wrong. Even Einstein believed in God, although i will admit he didnt believe he was a personal God that you could ask for help with your problems, but even with his emmence knoledge of physics, he believed the universe was a created one.

That's great! I've veen a christian for 29 yrs. With scientists even finding facts that proove the bible more and more people are opening their eyes. The people that say you need to be "more educated" are talking about books and things that were ment to explecitly disprove the bible and the existence of God. I recently read one of the so called proofs that the bible was a fake, it was about the four apostles (Matthew, Mark, Luke & John) and another on Revelation. It was rediculious, I laughed my way through them, it was a very poorly written book review. Stating that the apostles proves the bible is fake because they all contradict each other. HELLO, they are written by FOUR DIFFERENT people, each with their own viewpoint, who put their own personality and thought into it. God didn't write the bible, his words are in red in the new testiment. Anyway, how great for you!! I'm sorry to take up so much time.

I have done the same thing. No offence to anybody, but I believe the people who say these things didn't do any research or all of thier research was from bad sources. Remember I can put anything I want on the internet.

See my research is easy sometimes and hard other times. First thing is back up the information you find. Finding it in one or two places does not count as backing it up. Or you can look a creditable sourses, not places with a name that seems creditable. If I wanted to I could make a website and say it's the Darwinism Scientific Association or anything else I wanted to name it.

Last thing is to look at everything from more then one side. If you only look at one side of course you are going to share thier views. (I'm not trying to prove anything I'm just showing how you can be misguided) It's like this: The oldest huminoid fossils ever found was type d. By saying this I am neglecting that the youngest type d and type c are in the same about the same age and that type A have been found during the timelines of these a long time before type B was found. In other words it is suppose to go D - C - B - A; however the fossil records don't add up. The oldest type A fossils are a lot older then type B. Type C and D ended around the same time.

I still have not found a rebutal to this find, but I keep on looking for one.

Are you sure that someone said to you that if you do research and make an informed decision you will come to the belief that there is no god? I suggest that you go back and carefully read whatever it is that makes you think someone said that to you - I think there's a fair chance that they didn't say it at all.

If you examine the evidence in an open-minded way you will conclude that there is no evidence for the existence of god, but that's a BIG "If". Essentially no-one looks at the evidence and draws a conclusion that is not tainted by his/her prior beliefs and desires. I am not at all surprised to find people who are well-educated and have a good understanding of the world and yet continue to believe in gods. As Quine pointed out, we can ALWAYS reconcile our beliefs with any set of evidence by making appropriate adjustments elsewhere in our beliefs. Sometimes those adjustments wind up ridiculous (e.g., the conservatives' "The media have a liberal bias" claim, or the tendency of people here to reject any survey results that disagree with their preconceptions), but that doesn't stop us from making them and defending our preconceptions.

So I would say that a person could be quite well-educated and still believe in gods: many of my colleagues fit that category. They're wrong, but they're not stupid or uneducated.

However, there are plenty of examples here of people whose belief in god DOES go with a lack of education. I just responded to a question by a believer who admonished non-believers by asking them essentially "What if you're wrong? Isn't that a terrible price to pay?". That's of course Pascal's Wager, and it is an obviously invalid argument. Repeating it as though it should be convincing simply reveals one's own ignorance, and better education would certainly be helpful there.

The first thing is to accept that some parts of the bible may be metaphor, allegory, or literary contradiction. Set that aside, you will need to read about each part as problems seem to crop up. This is good if you begin to believe the possiblity of evolution for instance.

Then, you must realize that there is no defense for choosing atheism. They can argue their unicorn story if they want, but simply put most people see God in their everyday lives, and can't possibly prove he doesn't exist. Atheists can prove that he doesn't exist either, but claim it is your responsibility scientifically to prove he doesn't exist. Realizing that God is supernatural and that science is the study of nature pretty much means that exact proof is not necessary. Realize then, that some people have been given "gifts" by God. Strong enough to ward off atheism and likely agnosticism. Ever doubt God, look up some Catholic miracles.

That's refreshing to hear. I don't know if anyone specifically told you to get an education. I have used that phrase for people who write in questions to simply cause anger and hatred. They like to poke sticks at religion, and really have no legitimate question they want answered. They can't even hit the spell check!

I would be very interested in your research. I too am a Christian, and I find the more supposed "facts" the atheists throw my way, the stronger my faith becomes.

There are many scientists who set out to prove the lack of a God, but instead found such overwhelming evidence of his necessity that they ended up searching for Him instead.

Many mathematicians have reached the same conclusions.

It all has to do with the condition of your heart and whether or not God designed someone for the purpose of his glory, or for some other purpose.

Pharaoh was created for the purpose of being destoryed, his heart was hardened against God so that his mighty works could be preformed. Many people are created, and although they have the same opportunity to believe, they will not because their hearts are hardened towards Him.

great question, I went through the same thing years ago, I went through the many so called proofs that science had to offer and it only strengthened my faith, people the claim that science disproves that God exist really never put science to that test, it is just words.

That's great that your faith can survive a self-education in science. It takes real courage to believe in things that can't be proven and that have been debunked for years now. Keep it up.

That's great, now try getting your material from a credited source. Not some religious funded institution that claims evolution means humans evolved from monkeys.
