Does one have to born Amish, or can one become assimilated?

I always wanted that life too but not the religion I think there should be towns started up everywhere that live that way.

I think that you can become Amish. But you better be prepared for a big culture shock.
Most of the amish families I know, are the best people I have ever spent time with. And they are always ready to talk to others.

I'm sure you could find a group that would take you in, but if you didn't grow up Amish with the privations they experience, you will have a terrible time trying to survive. If you're a woman you will be expected to have over 7 kids to help with the farm. Is this really the life you want?

You have to be born into an Amish family. I visited Amish Country once and learned about them. They are actually Dutch. But no, you can't become one.

Go to Pennsylvania, plenty of Amish people there to learn from.

I think that it's practically impossible to become Amish, but hey, you'll never know unless you try.

What about the cultures fascinates you? I'm sure you can but the strictness is an extreme of what we consider christianity. I'm sure some are different though. If you want to live off the earth, I would suggest a more spiritual and non-religious culture.
