That is a good question. If you like sweet try the German or dessert wines.
Napa Valley wines, Austrailian wines, Chilean wines.
I lLOVE Bully Hill wines! http://www.bullyhill.com/
Sweet Walter Wine & Love My Goat, see pictures on wine bottles -Walter loved the girl on that bottle of wine, but sweet Walter who drew was a bit on on the fun wild side and I hear he got into a car accident.
Walter S. Taylor placed a drawing he did of his goat overcoming tragedy with a statement.
“they have my name and heritage but they didn’t get my goat!”

1961 Chateau Latour. It's a deep red French wine that's great. It's aged to perfection now. The only problem is that it will cost about $1200 a bottle now. I used to sell wine and know a bit about it. 66 and 75 are good but the 75 needs to age 15 or 20 years before it's a "great' wine.

For just wine alone, not considering pairing with foods, I'm on a Shiraz (often called Syrah) kick right now. You can find some really good ones from Australia starting around $5 for a 750 ml bottle in your supermarket.
Definitely prefer the reds for the health benefits that whites do not contain.
Good luck and good drinking.

It all really depends on a number of variables. I choose my wine based on what type of food I'm eating, the climate, or simply what my date is in the mood for. My favourite is a cabernet, just because I like most red wines. It is usually served at room temperature, and I like to eat it with heavier meals such as steak or Italian food. If its hot outside and I'm eating a light meal, I like a nice chilled white wine, like a chardonnay or a riesling. I've tried hundreds of brands from hundreds of vinyards, and you have to be a real conniseur to tell the difference. You can get some decent wines at any grocery store, and I've even found a couple of good wines from wal-mart believe or not.

I've waited 7 months and I've got 2 more to go (pregnant) and I cannot wait to drink a glass of Merlot. It is red wine and it is the most exquisite to me. The finest bottle I've ever had is called "Domaine Caton" from Bordeaux, France. Also, it is best to keep it the occasional indulgence. I have one glass every ten days to a week, sometimes I make that as infrequent as 3 times per year. Mmmnn mmmmnnn good. So mellow and yummy.

As stupid as it sounds, drink what you like. Don't know what you like? Start experimenting...sample different wines at a wine bar, find a nearby winery and sample theirs, and so on.
What's good for one person may suck rocks to the next. Some people like sweet wines, some prefer dry (not sweet). Some like red, some like white, some like port or sherry.
Besides, it's another excuse to go out drinkin'

it depends on you. you should try the 3 main types and see what you like Red, White or Rose. If you like reds try a Merlot or Shiraz. If you like white, try a Chardonney or Reisling. Try a white zinfendel or a white merlot if you like Rose.
A good rule of thumb is how you like wine to taste...full bodied and warm or light and refreshing. Full bodied - you'll like reds. My friend loves reds because she likes the richness and smoothness. Her favorite it Shiraz. My favorite is Reisling because I like light sweet juicy wines.
There ar a lot of cheaper wines that are very good. Just go to a good store and ask someone who works there. Let them know you are new to wines and want some good basics to try. Good luck and enjoy!

Canadian ice wine is the best in the world. Drink it while serving dessert, or fresh fruit.

Each person has what they like so there isn't one set answer for every person out there. My favourite is Rieslings from Ontario, Canada.
