Because teeth represents the WHOLE teeth and the toothpaste cleans through tooth by tooth. Maybe they named it toothpaste because it sounds better or maybe the paste cleans one tooth at a time...thats what I think though.

I guess it's for the same reason we don't call fish ,fishes. It must of started when we got our firs tooth. Mom or dad could only brush one tooth

For the same reason they don't call them teethbrush. You are supposed to brush each tooth individually. Not all at once.
