I am traveling to cali, I am staying in calabasas, CA north of malibu, and I am wondering where the best beaches are? I am looking for a nice beach where I can go swimming and is not too crowded in september.

Zuma has a bus going from Calabasas to the beach. If you have a car take Kanan Dume Road exit from the 101 Ventura Freeway. Up and over turn left at Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) and don't go too fast. The right turn circles underneath PCH into the parking lot. You can miss it. It is huge and has recently been renovated. The bathrooms and shower are lovely and new. The sand is pristine white. Plenty of lifeguards, volleyball nets, etc.

Otherwise go to the Malibu Pier to watch the surfers. There's a beach at the Lagoon. And theirs a shopping center right there for picnic supplies.

I'm not sure which are good but be sure to AVOID Santa Monica and Venice if you want "nice" and "not crowded." Venice and Santa Monica are fun but a bit crazy. It's not a relaxing, clean type of place.

Mailbu for sure is great if you can find places open to public swimming. Other than that I know Laguna Beach is good but thats way far south from Malibu... I'll let you know if I think of anything else.

Jager --the beautiful sandy california PUBLIC beach runs hundreds of miles all the way from Santa Barbara to San Diego---with only a few notable rock outcroppings and interruptions (at Palos Verde Estates and Long Beach harbor). It's yours to use as you wish.... Up where you are I think you will find Zuma Beach will meet your needs.....can't remember if you can still drive on the beach---check it out....

Zuma Beach, pretty easy to get to from Calabasas. Big, beautiful beach, and not too crowded.
