People ,women in particular are
obsessed with being Thin .The psychological and pysical problems that arise from these people litteraly starving themselves is called anorexia..
I don't find frail ,skinny ,anorexic women attractive . All women are beautiful and should persue the thought of being healthy ,physically
and mentally .
You are correct it is both a mental and physical disease......You are not offensive ,just trying to let others know about such a horrible thing....

Anorexia develops over time, it's not like you wake up one day and become Anorexic. It can start with simple dieting, which can become more and more obsessive and eventually lead to Anorexia in susceptible individuals. Some people are predisoposed to body image disorders and obsessional behaviour including Anorexia, but usually something needs to trigger it off.

I know in the US, you have this extreme skinny culture, which might I add is sick, as it encourages illness such as Anorexia/Bulemia. I've even heard people saying they want to become Anorexic, that is the same as saying they'd like to become an Alcoholic or a Manic Depressive, it's incredibly ignorant and extremely pathetic.

Having suffered with Bulemia myself, I can't understand why anyone would want to pretend to have such an awful illness such as Anorexia. Do they think it is fun or something to be proud of? No, it is soul destroying, devestating and even if and when you recover, it's always at the back of your mind waiting for your to have a relapse. HTH.

I used to look at a lot of pro-ana (pro-anorexic) websites, and to give my opinion, they seem to (mostly) all like the "bony" look.

What I think is the difference between true anorexic and a dieter is that a dieter (or one who wishes to lose weight) is aware of his/her limit and is willing to stop at that reasonable and healthy limit. Anorexic ppl are not willing to make a reasonable and healthy limit for themselves, and therefore think that if they keep losing weight, they will someday magically become happy.

However, I believe that no 2 anorexics are the same. We all struggle with body image to a degree, some more than others. I don't believe that it is a sickness, but I do think that it is definately a result of extremely low self image.

I think most anorexics know perfectly well what they are doing to themselves, but losing weight can be addictive, and coupled with low self-image, it is the perfect recipe for self-destruction.

Nobody should be ridiculed for their lack of self esteem, though. It is just not cool. They need compassion and understanding, just like anyone else.

because back in the 80's there was a big educational push to show how terrible the disease is. They made a few emotional movies that really got america's attention to eating disorders.

because they feel like they cant control anything in their life exept their eating they are normally people who get little attention and hav low self estime especially if they get pressured in todays society being thin seemes to be a great thing and especially girls are pressured alot also by familly, frieds and even teachers to lose weight...even if its indirect

you cant pretend to have anorexia, just by looking at someone claiming to have anorexia I'm sure you could rule out whos lying and whos not, if theyre lying theyre probably just wanting attention.

Because it's such an easily preventable disease.

And to the first answerer, anorexics just starve themselves, bulimics are the ones who throw up.
