The deer was killed on the day I found it. I have no idea what could have taken the entire carcass. Please help me solve this mystery. I don't think it was a human because it has been very hot here and the carcass was stinking badly when I discovered it. It had been dead for less than eight hours.

Coyotes, badgers, wolves, foxes, bears ... some opportunistic carnivore.

One cold, hard winter I was deer hunting in deep west Texas. We found a doe skeleton. What was strange was that it was complete, undisturbed by predators. Hard as the winter was we could not see predators not touching it and scattering the remains, I mean, the hooves were still on the feet.

I suggested that we return to the hunting camp for a camera to photograph the remains and show the Game Warden, to see if he had any idea what was going on.

We returned and searched for hours, quiting at ten p.m. We never found the skeletal remains again.

I related the story to a buddy of mine from south Texas, an old cowboy and hunting buddy. He said he'd seen that before. If one of us had remained with the skeleton he would have seen the bones 'melt into the ground.' He said he didn't know what it was, but some 'sickness' did that and predators would not touch the remains. It seemed to occur during hard winters.

Don't know what to tell you.

Buuuurrrrrppp!!!!

It was delicious.

Seriously though - obviously something hauled off the carcass. Could have been a big cat (if you have them in your area), a bear, a pack of coyotes, a hunter with no sense, or a desperate family of hillbillies. It might even have been the Highway Department if it died close to the road. Re-examine the scene and look for clues.

No Mel Gibson isn't lifeless he's alive and nicely. he's appearing like an fool yet he's amazingly a lot alive. that's in straightforward words a rumour that someone has began for a shaggy dog tale, an particularly ill shaggy dog tale!

If it was next to the road then the highway department. Maybe some dumbass ate it. Most likely animals dragged it off, you'll find remains somewhere if thats the case.

Where do u live?? Maybe it was a coyote, they can be pretty big, and since they are pack animals, it coulda been dragged off by more than one!!!

if it was picked clean it was a combination of 4 things, predators, insects, sun, and most likely a bird such as a buzzard
