In genetics, some characteristics are more likely to be inherited than others. The traits of your parents determine what possibilities there are for you. Straight hair is a recessive trait and curly hair is a dominant trait, so if one of your parents contributes a curly hair gene and the other contributes a straight hair gene, you will have curly hair.
It is possible to contribute a straight gene even if one has curly hair, but you need both received genes to be straight in order to have straight hair (versus only needing one curly to have curly hair).

Because you have the gene that expresses for curly hair. And you got it from either your mum or your dad

Genetics, chemical make up of your hair LOTS of factors, if you had straight hair you would wish it were curly. Believe me I have bone straight hair. Keep it SHORT, and maintain it, IT WILL look GREAT!

It is a dominant trait!!
Does you Dad, Grandad, have curly hair?
If none of them do then it goes way back in your gene pool!

Because your root is kinked - are YOU kinked?
I'm not... my hair is as straight as - - -a straight thing...
My mum's hair was curly and my dad's hair was straight - my siblings all got lovely wavy hair - I got straight!
