My wheaten terrier is currently 7 years old. lately I have been concerned about how long he is going to live. Is there anyone that knows how long wheaten terriers usually live for?

Like all terriers the Wheaton tends to live to an older age than most larger dogs. If you're lucky the Wheaton will live to be 14-15 years old. That doesn't mean to say of course, that your dog will always be healthy throughout its long life. It will suffer from health problems just like any living creature but the bottom line is that it will be your companion for a longer period of time than a larger dog such as an Irish wolfhound which will only live for half as long. Smaller dogs live longer because their bones don't support as much weight and so won't break down as easily and also because their is less strain on their heart as it doesn't have to work hard to pump blood round a much bigger body. The vast majority of Wheaton terriers are intrinsically healthy but some common ailments which do affect them are hereditary diseases such as: hip-dysplasia progressive retinal atrophy and special renal problems. The life expectancy of the Wheaton terrier is good, however.Thirteen to fourteen years is average so you have plenty of time to enjoy them!
