My drug counselor told me..once an addict always an addict. You can never be totally sure if someone will stay off of the drug permanently. It sounds like he is now making good decisions, however you just never know if he will go back...he may not then again he may. Just take it day by day and hope everything stays positive.

Three years clean is a big step so far. I think he's definitely on the road to recovery, but there is still a whole lot ahead of him. Getting clean is alot easier than staying clean. It looks to me that he is doing very well and going to school to be a drug counselor is a wonderful idea. Many recovering addicts have went that route and went on to help others kick their addiction. I never experienced that particular drug but as a recovering cocaine addict, I know the ups and downs of the process. No matter what happens make sure he knows how much you all love him. I wish him luck and will be hoping for the best.

He will always be a heroine addict...And it's up to him to stay away from the druggies and the drug life...It's to easy to slip back into that kind of life...So,it's all up to him...It sounds like he is getting a great start...Going to school to become a drug counselor ,that is something he will be great in,and he will be a big help to the ones who are being counselor...

I knew a man that was once a huge drug head. He to became a counselor. He was fine. His health was bad, but I guess that comes form the excessive drug use. He did lead a good life. He was a good man. Didn't ever get back on the drugs, but still did not have a very long life.

There is always hope as long as he remembers where he has come from and takes one day at a time. There are no absolutes , it is an ongoing process for the rest of his god given life. His work now is to stay stopped, helping others is a way to unselfishly give back what has been given to him. What he has learned in these blessed 3 years he he will need to continue to reinforce everyday. I will keep him in my prayers!

Yes it is very possible to get off drugs and change your life around. That's awesome that he is in school to be a drug counselor, it prooves to me that it is very important for him to stay clean. By helping other drug addicts, your cousin will be helping himself as well!
Best wishes!

I should imagine with the right kind of support and a loving family. He will make it, lots of times it is due to peer pressure and getting in with the wrong crowd.
Hope it all works out ok, for him and mainly for the family who have to witness the suffering.
