it depends what time of year it is and the body of water you are fishing. Black gold fish, blue gill, perch, Minnows, worms, crawdads, some people use hot dogs, shrimp and others but what works best for me most of the time is Black gold fish and perch. They seems to draw the biggest fish. I have 6 master angler awards using alot of these baits listed

If a body of water has any catfish, they will usually bite blood flavored dough balls. This is a good all round bait because unlike worms bluegill won't touch dough balls and all sizes of catfish can be caught on them, although smaller ones figure a way to clean your hook sometimes. However, in rivers with swift current dough balls don't last too long, so small fish is the best bait.
My favorite brand is Magic bait "King Kat" either chicken or beed blood

First put a weight on a piece of line about a foot long, then put that about a foot above your hook. The hook should be about the size of your thumb. place a small ball of Power Bait brand Catfish Stink bait on the end, and cast it out. Keep the line taut but on the bottom of the lake near some structure. Wait for awhile, and when you feel the Cat take the bait (tugs on the line) then reel it in. (works best in evenings and night)

I always use Anchovies for catfish. I fish the California delta and always catch a good amount everytime I go.
Any bait that stinks works very well.

catfish will bite on anything, the key is to make sure it sinks to the bottom. Try adding weight closer to the hook. Also if you fish more in the evening, fish in the shallow waters or after the sun goes down in the shallow waters. You'll catch one then.

Use stink bait and then add some weights about a foot up from the hook. Send it out near the wall of where you are fishing and slowly reel in. Works well for me.

use some magic bait from walmart. little red balls of bait and use the treble hooks. the hook with three on em. and put the bait on that and let it sit. id use gloves or something though cause it really stinks and it will stay on your hands for a couple of days no matter how many times you wash em.
