Dogs generally have their first estrous cycle at 6-12 months of age. Some females of the large breeds, however, may not have their first estrus until they are 12-24 months of age. The bleeding stage lasts 4-9 days, and the entire cycle is about 21 days. I'm not sure what the conversion to "human years" would be but I've heard that the first dog year is about 16 years for large dogs and it decreases after that...

Depends on the size of the dog but anywhere between 6 months and 18 months as a rough guideline the smaller the dog the younger giant breeds a lot older. You can spay your dog before she comes into season though. Females in season can be really messy so cover up the furniture and carpets, this alone is a good enough reason to spay! and dont forget not to let her outside of the yard and even in the yard keep her under close watch.

It's called the heat cycle, or estrus. Most smaller breeds go into heat at 6-9 months of age, and larger breeds 7-10 months of age. Some labradors go into heat at 12-18 months old! Most dogs have heat cycles on average every 6-9 months.

they can start as early as five months old. it is better for your dog to be spayed before she comes into heat, she will get much more health benefits from it.
