Cornstarch: 2 tablespoons flour equals 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, or equal amounts of arrowroot.

If the cornstarch is for thickening gravy or stew, you can use flour mixed with water. Be sure it is well mixed or you will have lumps.I put about a half cup flower in a jar and use about the same amount of water. If it seems too thick, add a little more water. Then put the lid on the jar and shake well. Then use it immediately.Good luck.

It depends on what you're using it for. Flour can substitute for cornstarch but don't expect the end product to be exactly the same as if you would use cornstarch.

Arrowroot powder makes a fine substitute. However, if all you have on hand is flour, double sift it, and use the same measure you were supposed to use with the cornstarch.

Good luck!

From my experience, only corn starch, or arrowroot will
remain a clear thickener.

Any flour will thicken with a roux, but it will NOT be clear.

good luck
