It's not that we want to hate them. It's just that as Christians we must obey the word of God. God doesn't have to explain to us why he put the commands and judgements in his word, it is not for us to question, but obey. When we get to heaven, then God will explain it all to us, right now we must prove our love to him by walking in faith Just as Abraham did when God asked him to sacrifice his son.

1 Corinthians 6

9Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! Fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, sodomites, 10thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, robbers-none of these will inherit the kingdom of God.

Leviticus 18

22You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination. 23You shall not have sexual relations with any animal and defile yourself with it, nor shall any woman give herself to an animal to have sexual relations with it: it is perversion.

Please try to be tolerant.

As a gay male I am neither a Sodomite nor a prostitute, I'm in a very happy monogamous relationship. All the Sodomites were destroyed don't you know, there are none left, it was genocide...they weren't very good at showing hospitality and so God killed them mainly for that and for general sinfulness...nothing to do with gays as far as I can tell from reading about it...attempted rape of angels is not what most of us gays recognise as gay sexuality.
It's not to do with not tolerating your attitudes it's more about not tolerating glaring inaccuracy.

Corinthians 6:9 is a verse that no scholar is actually sure about. This verse is one where Paul wrote a long list of what we shouldn't do. Don't kill one another. Don't lie or cheat or steal. The list goes on to include fornication, idolatry, whoremongering, perjury, etc. He also includes "malokois" and "arsenokoitai."

What's a malokois? What's an arsenokoitai? Actually, those two Greek words have confused scholars to this very day.

Greek scholars say that in first century the Greek word malaokois probably meant "effeminate call boys." The New Revised Standard Version says "male prostitutes."

As for arsenokoitai, Greek scholars don't know exactly what it means.

In 1958, for the first time in history, a person translating that mysterious Greek word into English decided it meant homosexuals, even though there is, in fact, no such word in Greek or Hebrew.

In the past, people used Paul's writings to support slavery, segregation, and apartheid. Is it happening again? Is a word in Greek that has no clear definition being used to condemn gays?

Leviticus is a more than 3,000 years old holiness code that also forbids us to eat shelfish, and wear clothes of mixed fabric.

Please try to understand YOUR bible and its history a little better before you ask us to be tolerant with your stupid intolerance based on that same old book you refer to!

Umm, do you think of that all and sundry Christians are like those ones protesting squaddies graves by using fact they died for a rustic that accepts gays? No Christians dont desire to stone homosexuals. they're human beings, we've faith that god loves them in simple terms as a lot yet what they work together in is a sin. Christians are actually not illiberal jerks, they dont desire to stone and kill every person.

Because no human being should be denied the rights others enjoy. No individual should be denied health insurance, inheritance rights, visiting rights, etc. simply because of their lifestyle. Imagine Jesus limiting those rights to anyone. Are lesbians/gays less than the prostitute Jesus befriended?

The only two places the Hebrew word for "abomination" is used in the Bible is for men lying with men - and - for people eating forbidden foods. Eating pork, shrimp, lobster, shellfish is an ABOMINATION!

I have difficulty recognizing the Christian God of loving kindness.

Tolerance is a bizarre concept to theists.

I got accused of being intolerant by a muslim friend the other day after I got upset with her for telling me I was going to go to hell. It's intolerant to criticise her for believing I deserve to go to hell for eternity just because some book told her so. That's a good one.

Definition of the word - Tolerance: (from m-w.com/dictionary/tolerance) sympathy or indulgence for beliefs or practices differing from or conflicting with one's own.

Why can't believers be tolerant of what nature has original intended? It would be absolutely arrogant to assume that one has to be with the opposite sex. Furthermore, it's also arrogant to assume that god takes the human form, why not, as the form of an ape - homo-sepians? or a T-Rex? it'll be tragic for 'believers' to ruin their life by believing that the purpose of life is to satisfy the needs of some religion.

I suspect that 'believers' relish on their intolerance.

Happily Gay.

So your point is that God asks people to do things that, if asked by someone else, would seem downright dumb. If God asked you to kill your son, or your mother, then you'd be obliged to do it. And since he'd "explain" it later, you'd be OK with that? Can you think of an "explanation" that would justify the killing of your son or mother?

So let me put it "tolerantly:" I will fight all your attempts to belittle, or harm, or otherwise deprive of rights, anyone because of their sexual orientation.

On the other proposal, even if God has told you to kill someone, you would be wise not to attempt it anywhere near me.

I'm sorry who wrote the Bible? Because last I hear it was a bunch of men using the word of God to control people into doing what they thought was right. Worship god in your own way instead of listening to 2000 year old bureaucrats. You ask us to be tolerant of you yet you yourself can show no tolerance, that sounds very Christian to me.

18 For the R36 wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress R37 the truth in F12 unrighteousness, 19 because that R38 which is known about God is evident within F13 them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since R39 the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being R40 understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor F14 Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile R41 in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing R42 to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged R43 the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling F15 creatures.

24 Therefore God R44 gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored R45 among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a F16 lie, R46 and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who R47 is blessed forever. F17 Amen.

26 For this reason God R48 gave them over to degrading R49 passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, F18 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men R50 with men committing indecent F19 acts and receiving in their F20 own persons the due penalty of their error.

28 And just as they did not see fit to F21 acknowledge God any longer, God R51 gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, R52 30 slanderers, haters R53 F22 of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient R54 to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, R55 unmerciful; 32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, R56 they not only do the same, but also give R57 hearty approval to those who practice them.

because hating someone for who they are is wrong, no matter what your justification. and if you are so eager to obey the bible, how about the parts about taking slaves, having many wives? presumably those are also good and right, so you should probably be out taking slaves right now. and of course you follow all the rules about when you can and can't touch a woman based on her period, right?
