generally, how long does it take to overcome a weight lose plateau. weeks? months?

days. change your routine, even if you just do things in reverse order. but your body is used to what your doing so you need to change something.

I found that I would lose a stone and stick at that weight for about 6 or 7 weeks then would lose another stone fairly quickly, and then once I had lost that stone I would stick again for 6 or seven weeks

Try eating a little less and drinking more water. Also give circuit training a try. You could also try a new workout. Good luck :D
