i just got a floppy disk in the mail and i try to access the info on it and it says "this disk has not been formatted " if i format it will it delete everything on the floppy disk also how do i access the info without formatting it???

In order:

Try the disk in another computer.

If you have encryption software on your computer turn it off.

Ask the person who sent you the disk if they have it encrypted.

Get a new disk.

try cleaning your floppy drive. also blow with dry air to your floppy disk. dust may be the reason it can not read, otherwise it may have been damaged in the mail if it experienced a tremendous heat from the sun or even dropped to the floor. there could me many reason

Well if it really is not in an acceptable format you may as well go ahead and try the reformatting because it is never going to play in its current format...not like you have much to lose here.....But first check with the sender to make sure there is back on his computer...

No, it doesnt it just fits the the aquirments that the floppy disk needs to download or accsess it..

if you have use it in windows 98,2000,nt when you input something in floppy and then you open in windows xp then it will not open because of format of your drive may be ntfs if its not than there is some problem in floppy. try to use other os it may open

do you have a Windows (XP) PC?
if so, it could be that you got the diskette from the owner of MacIntosh; rather sloppy one, with that, as Macs can write Windows diskettes, nowadays :-w

alternatively, it could be that the diskette got magnetized while in transit (was the envelop branded as containing magnetic sensitive media?)
