Not only will a second litter box help, but you should try and place it where you have found Smokey likes to go to the bathroom, if that's possible. Keep in mind that cats like to go where people don't see them going, so if you can find a place like that, it works out best for you and the cats. Change or scoop the litter often as cats are pretty picky about a clean place to go do their dirty works. Just a little humor there, but seriously, get the second litter box, find a good spot for both litter boxes and keep them clean, the little guys should both be just fine.

I tried to answer this yesterday evening but was having a problem getting things to submit. There could be several reasons why Smokey won't use the litter box. First a cat with a uti usually will not use a litter box, have him checked by a vet. Also, he's male. If he's not neutered he may be marking...that is a habit you would need to nip in the bud quickly, have him neutered if he's not. Multiple cats need multiple litter boxes. Many cats do not like to share a box. Then there is the litter, use unscented. The scented stuff smells good to us but to a cats extra sensitive nose it can be horribly strong. I hope this helps you.

He might rather have his own litter box. Also, be sure to keep all litter boxes clean. Cats hate using dirty litter boxes, and some cats are even pickier than others. Also, you may want to have him vet checked. If he has a urinary tract or bowel problem, he could associate using the litter box with pain, and stop using it. Some cats like a little more privacy, maybe try a covered litter box. Good luck! :-)

Hitting won't do any good anyway and that is abuse. Try getting your kitty his own litter box. You can use a shoe box for starters and see how he does. He may be dominant or just the scent may throw him off. Most puppies and kittens don't like to step in their mess but just try giving him his own and see how he does.
I take it he is going on the floor or carpet? Try using a spray add some bleach to some water and spray around the areas where he has been going but not the area of the litter box. He may decide he wants to try that one instead of the others.

Try giving Smokey his own litter box. Being a male, he could be uncomfortable going near another cats scent.

Im not sure whats wrong with your cat. Maybe he wants his own litter box. I dont know. Yes its ok if you move the box and food and stuff cause we did you just have to show them where it is. Take them there every so often and show them.
GOOD LUCK!!

Some cats won't share a litter box. If you get him a separate one of his own he might use it.
