I am an owner of 2 volvo vehicles, for the people who has a bad opinion about Volvos you can tell they have never owned one. Despite the fact that volvo belongs to Ford now it is still the safest car on the road and they will last forever, Fords owns the company, however Volvos are still being manufactured in Sweden. So the fact that an "american company" (like someone said) bought it has not limited its qualiy. No, bmw's are not more expensive, and BMW does not use turbos in their engines so I would not compare them to start with. If you ever purchase a Volvo you will be sold to it like my husband and I have been since the first time we bought one. When we drive, we feel safe, go to the volvo website and visit the VOLVO saved my life link, you will see why they are so dependable, because they are built of pure steel. So, there you go........

Volvos were once top of the line cars, reliable to a fault. The later models have gone the way of all cars, complicated, expensive to repair and, although they may be reliable, a breakdown is somewhat catastrophic. I've owned these cars since 1968 and always loved them. Their safety record is beyond compare. They are comfortable, with the best seats of any vehicle going. They are well-equipped and with nicely appointed interiors. Unfortunately, the last decent Volvo was the 940 which was introduced in the '90s. Any subsequent Volvo model just doesn't seem to possess the qualities I've come to respect the Volvo name for. My last new Volvo was a '98 and it was a nightmare. Mercifully, it's gone and I'm happy. I still have a '66 and will probably always have it. If you're considering a Volvo purchase, do your research before handing over the cash. They were once great cars but heavy electronics and their wish to appeal to the masses have made them, only in my opinion, less desirable cars.

I drive a 2.5 litre diesel XC90 SE, and it's a great machine. Handles well for it's size (which is what i've always liked about volvo estate/station wagon cars too).
I paid around 31,000 for it brand new, and she's worth every penny.
For comparison, I used to drive a grand cherokee jeep, which in my opinion, sucked. Seemed way too heavy on the ground, and poor fuel consumption.
