Once your puppy has had all of his vaccinations he will be able to walk on the ground. Parvo is the worst of the diseases and can claim your puppy in less that 24hrs.

It is a parasite that attacks the intestines and is a very cruel and vicious death. Extremely painful and dehydrates the puppy until he loses his life.

I run a kennel and I NEVER allow my puppies to walk on the ground until they've had all their shots. I use cardboard boxes lined with newspaper and it is a lot of work at times but well worth it.

Incubation is 7-10 days and if the mother of the puppy doesn't have immunity to parvo then the puppies chances are slimmer to none.

Meaning he will get it and get it bad. There are several different strains of the virus and the F strain is the worst.

Get your puppy vaccinated then wait and see if the vet wants to do a second or third series on the shots. If not then your puppy will be ok. Try not to take him around other dogs or public places where dogs frequent as they defecate and transmit the disease that way.

In other words wherever there is feces and someone steps on it being human or animal and then the puppy steps on it he can get the disease.

Believe me you don't want the puppy to get this disease.

The puppy doesn't need to be walked now anyway, just play with him and keep him HYDRATED. You can put some powerade in his water they have the clear or the blue my dogs love those sometimes orange.

Keep his electrolyte count up. You can tell if he's dehydrating by lifting the scruff of his neck up and then holding it for a couple seconds and letting go. If it returns quickly to normal he's doing well if it's slow then he is dehydrating.

GET HIM HIS SHOTS then KEEP him away from everyone especially dogs. You can keep him in a washer size box ( I get them at Sears ) because they are clean. Line it with newspaper and he also will become paper trained at the same time

Do what is RIGHT and BEST for your puppy if you LOVE him you WILL.

Good luck!

Yes it is true that there are diseases that can be transmitted to your pup. Did your pup have all the shots? If not, don't take him out at all. Just play with him inside your house, where it's safe and clean. The walking can be on hold for now. What's more important is the health and safety of your new pup. Playing with him and socializing with him is good enough for a puppy. They don't have to go straight into walking. Your pup needs to be comfortable in it's environment first.. so don't rush your pup into walking. Once your pup has all the shots, wait a week later or so then take him out.

If you live in a house and have not had any diseases there for over a year, you can walk him in your yard. For public places, you should wait until after he has recived all his shots.

i agree with waiting until he has had his vaccinations, but also remember that short walks are best for puppies that are still growing. too much walking can affect growth plates in their bones and joints. once he's close to full growth longer walks are okay

After he gets all his shots, especially his second Parvo shot.
