I have a small poodle and she does not bark because I kept going shhhh. She got the message. I talk to her quite a bit and she lowered her bark when someone comes. Of course she got the idea she is human.

Sadly this is a difficult habbit to break in this type of dog. I would use a water gun without letting him see where the water is coming from evey time he barks. Also do not shout at him for barking or give him any attention for it he will learn that he gets attention from barking if you do.

Alternatively if he starts barking and you are there distract him with some training excersises and food rewards instead, if hes bright he can learn all sorts of tricks. Good luck

It used to drive me nuts when my dog would bark at everything then someone pointed out to me that he is just trying to protect me and keep everything safe. I started telling him he was a good boy when he barks and he usually stops and walks towards me so proud with his tail straight up in the air ready for a little scratch on the top of his head as his reward for being such a good protector. They really do mean well.

i looked at some of the other answers and i agree you need to watch and get the dog whisperer to help. it's a great show and i don't even own dogs.

That's funny. If you can afford to have the dog whisperer over, he'd correct that in 1 minute...not sure how'd he'd do it though..
