well, everything has been done or so they say especially in painting. I suggest reading some post-modern philosophy like Boudirard, Barthes or Kristeva. try visualizing some of their ideas onto the canvas and see what happens. Modernism is so overdone and over taught. some painter I recommend looking at are Jenny Saville, Francesco Clemente, Lucien Freud, John Currin, Carroll Dunham, Adriana Varejão, and so many more to get an Idea of where painting is now. I also recommend looking across medium lines for ideas because art is very interdisciplinary these days. good luck

I noticed this at a gallery in Napa Valley, California... it was a small miniature painting, almost like a 3X5 index card, with a beautiful acrylic painting of a vineyard. I suggest doing miniatures in acrylic of things in YOUR local area... if it's farmland, why not a bushel of corn painted against a barn for the backdrop? If you're in a city, perhaps traffic lights with tall skyscrapers in the background. That little miniature painting I saw had a price tag of $125... others were more expensive.

Paint something from your imagination! I love mystical/ethereal things like fairies, sprites, Lord-of-the-Rings-type stuff. It's amazing...look to Amy Brown and Nene Thomas for some inspiration...I'd love to get involved into that sort of artwork. I've never seen anything like this stuff - it varies quite considerably with each artist - it's awe-inspiring!

If you are looking for something new, have you thought of doing paintings of our Galaxies. There are more and more Astrophotos that are amazing to look at on these website: http://www.space.com/amazingimages/?cat=s&category=Astrophotos%3A+Galaxies%2FNebula&page=archive&archtype=bycat

Of course you shouldn't copy them but you can use them for inspiration and go from there. Of course I'm sure that it has been done before but with your creative imagination you can put your own unique style in it.
