I know there are plenty of theings to believe in that don't link to religion, but for anyone, do you just believe in nothing (at times or all the time)? How does this make you feel?
I would be terribly depressed all the time...

I think i need to explain a finer detail- when i said "believe in nothing" i mean you don't believe anything outside of science, what's there is there.
I am catholic, and largely diest, i believe god wound up the clock and let it go, My morals aren't framed around god but with god as a focus in my life i feel more in control (i'm sure that makes no sense to some of you).
I tell you, my life is good but I HATE it. I used to Doubt A LOT. the trouble for me is as soon as I start to think there is no God, there is nothing better, once my mind is gone it's gone, i could die alone, my thoughts with me, and no one will ever remember me. so i do nothing, why? I don't know.
I get depressed, life becomes pointless. this is why i could never be an atheist and I'm okay with that.
I believe in spirits and demons, that Jesus rose from the dead. maybe some of you call it magic, but when all the magic is gone and all that i see is what's in front of me, it will be plain and i will weep.

For you, ignorance is bliss. For us, learning and knowledge are bliss. Case closed.

I feel that being an atheist helps me to appreciate life more. I make sure that I am enjoying life now because I don't believe that I can after I die. Because of the fact that I don't belive in a higher deity, I feel like people that do are just wasting their time and money. I think that being religious does help people to some extent, but I think that there are going to be bad people whether they believe or not and people are going to be good whether they believe or not. I feel like all that religion is is a false hope that just exists to make people feel better about their life. Why should I wish for something better when no one knows whether it is real. I just want to make the most of what I know that I have.

Congratulations on an interesting question and why would I as an atheist feel the need to start yelling at you?I have love for my fellow men too though I'm no Christean.
Sometimes I do believe in nothing and yes sometimes that depresses me.The truth, not only in this case, can be depressing sometimes
But most of the time I believe in humanity and when I look around there is so much to appreciate and to enjoy.People can make me very depressed at times but there's always one or more beautiful persons who lift my mood.Life can be beautiful even when you're an atheist like me.Hope this answers your question.Peace and love.

I believe that it is the symptom of a limited mind to hold some infantile notion of an omnipotent heavenly being. Moreover, I find it simply evidence of our own self-importance and terminal fear of the universe that has led to the present religious constructs.
There is nothing, we simply are. That does not mean that life has to be pain, just as I am happy to know that my entire carnal existence will not have to be devoted to pleasing some judgmental deity. I am actually quite comfortable in the belief that there is a far larger process of chaos at work, even if I can only vaguely grasp at its implications.

I promise not to yell at you, as you aren't trying to convert me.
I don't know why you think you'd be depressed. I've never been depressed over there not being any god.
I don't "just believe in nothing" -- there's a whole universe here, in the existence of which I am firmly convinced. FASCINATING place. Just chock full of really interesting stuff.
I have hope for the future of humanity, as I believe we are learning more and more about what we are, why we're so screwed up, and how to get out of being screwed up.
Nothing to be depressed ABOUT. (Well, OK, there IS, but I hope you know what I mean. Deep in my heart I do believe we shall overcome someday.)

Jeez, sorry if I previously ruined your self esteem.
Frankly, I feel pretty good about life. I feel like my decisions are my own and I get an extra kick when I do good deeds because I know they were inspired my me and not some promise of heaven.
The way I see it, God is a moral crutch, but I have two working legs.

I live life to be the best person I can be for myself, my husband & family and my community. It is making them comfortable and happy with all that is within my power. I am a happy individual, I am loved, I have a great career (not job I actually like what I do) and I give to my community because it makes me happy to see others happy. I don't see my life as having nothing.

"do you just believe in nothing"
Atheists can and do believe in many things, just not god. There are good and bad parts of life but overall, it's great. It's the only one I've got as far as I know so I'm going to make the best of it.

I love life, and I probably enjoy it a lot more now than when I was religious.....because I know that there's nothing after this. I am living my life now, not for some magical Disneyland after I die.

atheists don't believe in god, therefore they believe in nothing?!?
for a xian, I suppose that is true since to them god is everything. however, it could not be further from the truth.
atheists believe in and rely themselves, their friends and family (believe it or not, we do have friends and family). it makes me feel wonderful, free. I do not need god to handle my problems in life. *I* can do it.
curious - why do you not want to debate the existence of god? if you have proof, the whole world is waiting. if it makes you feel bad because you know you can't prove it, perhaps you should not be here.
