I had a black lab that did this a while ago. He did this with food and playing ball... if you wouldn't throw it he would growl.

What I did was ignore him. Act as if he isn't there. I know, its hard. And when he starts to growl, pop him in the nose and firmly say no. Don't beat him, just one single pop to let him know that is not acceptable. I did this and he soon quit growling, but the problem with him staring at me while i was eating still exsisted. So I'd point and snap and tell him to go on, go laydown somewhere. This takes persistance. Don't give up! My dog was stubborn, but he now just lays down and doesn't care when i eat.

Say "no" firmly each time he begs. Do not give him food when he growls because he feels it weakens you and he gets what he wants. Only reward good behavior. Giving food from the table will always make him beg, so avoid giving him food from the table. If you have a special cabinent for treats, and you have food left over from your meal, bring the plate to the cabinet and pretend you are taking the sraps from the cabinet. Make him do a trick like sit, stay, roll over, etc. That way, he knows he has to be a good dog before getting the treat. He'll soon figure out that that is what he needs to do in order to gets a treat. Never use the dogs name when punishing. The dog will think his name is a result of bad behaior. Always say "bad dog", never "Bad Scrappy". I hope this info helps.

This problem usually happens because at some point in the dogs life he was given food from a plate as a treat from a owner etc. The dog now knows if he begs he will get something. Dont give in. Shut the dog out of the room when you are eating.

NEVER give a dog scraps. I know people do but these people obviously dont realise by doing so you are actually damaging your pet. Too many table scraps can lead to all sorts of problems and can be fatel in the long run. Thats why dogs have a separate diet in cans and as dry food. If you want a long healthy life for your pet. Give him ONLY pet food and fresh water.

Do not feed from the table. Train him with the dog bowl that he has. Growl or not, as long as he doesn't start biting. Move him into another room if hes being a obnoxious

lemon juice in a squirt bottle everytime he comes over to beg for food a little squirt in the mouth soon he will associate the bottle as a bad thing and you will just have to hold the bottle up after a while when he forgets a little squirt good luck

lol i know how you feel plus its hard to resist such a cuute face... but if you just ignore him he'll get tired of it. After you are done eating give him a treat for not begging. Or if you simply cant eat with him staring at you try putting him in another room or outside while you eat.

Try not giving him scraps from the table, ever, but just save your leftovers and give them to him in his food bowl. Only feed him from his bowl, that way he thinks that his bowl is the only source of food.

Just say "no, bad dog" when he growls and don't ever feed him from the table.
