So they can remember themselves, best way not to forget something keep saying it over and over. Make their day and tell them you don't believe them and knock off five years!

Because they have lived through experiences you cant even imagine, like hand-to-hand fighting, being shot at day after day after day, been in prison camps, suffered aggression and hatred from other religious factions, been abandoned by families and the State, lived in poverty that you will never, ever experience----and they are proud to have survived. Thats why they tell you their age; because they consider them selves so lucky to be alive when so many are not. Dont mock them- respect them, because if you are really lucky, you will be old one day too.

you must meet some strange elderly people, i think on the contrary they dont wish to divulge their age and whatsmore it would remind themselves, its a thing, especially if your in the run up to 90, you accept that your time is running close to the final day of your longevity but again as i said you keep your mind focused on getting on with your life, and not shout from the house top how many years you have been around

At what age do you define someone as an 'old person', then I can give you an answer. If you are two years old an 'old' person would be fourteen maybe younger. So define 'old person' please.
