First off, Jesus is NOT a mythological charater. Most people (historians included) agree that He was a real person. The debate is over whether He was God's Son ,The Messiah, or just a guy who has some cool ideas. Some religions say He was just a great prophet ( A person who give message to you from God).
I am a Christian. I don't "believe" in Jesus...I know Him. He loves me so much that He died on the cross so that one day I could be with Him forever. Because we are human, we do things that are wrong or make mistakes (sin). When we sin it's like betraying the King, which the punishment is death. God loves us- the didn't want us to die and have to go to Hell forever without ever having a chance. So He came down to earth(a few decades after the time of Julius Ceasar)to die for us so we wouldn't have to die. While He was here, he taught us about God...how to just love Him and call Him Daddy (Abba).Since He (Jesus)never did a single thing wrong, death could not keep Him. On the third day, He arose again.
Now God gives us a choice. We can love Him or hate Him. He wants us to love Him freely, not force us to love Him. So we have a choice. If we start a realationship with Him, it will never end. God takes us as His own kids and someday, He(Jesus) will come back to earth and take the dead and the ones still living and rescue us from everything. We will live forever with Him forever in Heaven, which is completely perfect.
For all those who don't choose to love Him, He cannot help any futher. God is loving and merciful, but also just. So He must punish sin because it is right. They will be thrown into a lake of fire with Satan and His demons(which are fallen angels).
Jesus is sitting now, at the throne of God, waiting for as many as possible to know Him so that He can save them an take them to heaven with Him. Why? Because He loves you.
Read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John from the Bible.

Jesus is not a mythological character. He is the son of God, and came to earth over 2,000 years ago. He is so popular because all of Christianity is based on Him and God, and the Bible. Jesus really existed and still exists today, just not on our Earth. He was Hebrew and was a Jew. He spent his life on Earth to minister to everyone that he was the son of God and came to provide salvation and reconciliation with God by atoning for the sins of humanity . Many other religions believe that he was only a prophet like many others in their religion, but that is not true. Christianity is the only truthful depiction of Jesus and the Bible. Other religions such as Islam are incorrect about Jesus and God. Go and rent the movie The Passion of the Christ and it depicts the last 12 hours of the life of Jesus.

Jesus is God's son. He is not a mythological character - he is a real man from the Roman times, who lived in what is now the Middle East. He is depicted in the Bible, which non-Christians try to depict as a mythological book, but don't let that fool you - there is plenty of historical facts that let us know that the Bible is real (non-Christians are often ignorant of this). I'm not trying to convert you to Christianity or anything, I'm just trying to open you to the idea that Jesus isn't mythological.
He's popular because he is God in human form. He performed miracles and saved many lives, and eventually the Romans sentenced him to death because they didn't believe in him and he was creating a huge raucous. In dying, he took all of our burdens and sins onto himself so that we wouldn't have to carry them, which was very painful for him. He rose from the dead 3 days later to prove that he was the son of God like he said he was. Jesus is the guy that makes it possible for those who believe in him and in God to go to heaven when they die.
And it isn't a stupid question :)

His name was Y'shua bar Yoseph and he was a first century rabbi, not exactly a mythological figure. The mythos came later after the Romans executed him for suspicion of insurrection. Of course it was a judicial error on the part of Rome, but Pilot did not really like being there in Judea and tended to be sloppy with the use of Roman Justice, and a tad bit heavy handed.

Jesus is so popular because he has done many miracles before the eyes of people just like us, except many years ago. He is not a myth, for there are many written records of him, which are all true and written by real people (including the Bible). If it weren't for this man, who was God's son we would die the moment we made our first sin. God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are all one. They are just different forms.
I hope that helps,

Jesus is the son of God. He was sent by His Father to be born of a woman, so he could take on human form. The world had become thoughtless of God's commandments and chose bad instead of good. God was merciful and sent His Son Jesus to teach and convey God's love and mercy and to turn away from sin. This resulted in God sacrificing His Son for our sins because some did not accept Jesus and put him to death as a blasphemer. So Jesus suffered terribly and was put to death by crucifixion (hanging on a cross, like criminals were condemned to do in that time), and all on our account. His death was not in vain, because millions of Christians around the world try to be faithful to God and try to live according to His will.

I assume you are on a religion & spiritual site for some knowledge. Might I suggest you pick up a bible. I daresay you could learn alot and within a week you would be back here thanking all of us that suggested it. God Bless You.
John said he was in the world and the world was made by him and the world knew him not, so don't feel so bad, you are not alone. Jesus is the only begotten son of God. Of his own free will he loved you so much that he gave up the spender of heaven to die so that you might live. READ, READ, READ !!!!!!!!!!!!

Jesus means; *Salvation from Jehovah* or Jehovah rescues*....
I believe he is not mythical, but real. God made sure he is popular, so all can decide if they want him for their savior and King.
You know this is 2006, so he lived 2006 years ago, on earth. He was the promised Jewish Messiah. He is the firstborn from the dead. (although others were resurrected, they died again)
He will rule the earth and Heaven forever, under the Father's authority. 1Peter3:22, 1Corinthians 15:27,28.

Roman era. Actually God imbued a number of people at the same time. Check out the dates on Mohammed and Buddah.
Apparently God was sending us a message. As usual, nobody was listening.
