I know it feels good to scratch an itch, but what I really meant was why does hurting your skin feel good at the time? Is there a name for the phenomenon? If you cut yourself on a sharp or paper cut etc. it just hurts!!! Scratching my eczema feels wonderful! Almost like masssage feels good but more intense.

In reply to n_p, try steroid ointment sparingly under wet wrap bandages like icthopaste or steripaste (obviously under a dry bandage) overnight or even better for a few days (changing daily)...that is really effective. Remember to moisturise with aqueous cream or greasy emollient an hour before dressing and straight after washing. Best of luck

When you scratch you stimulate all the histiocytes to release all of the histamine and then get temporary relief of itching. It can burn afterwards because of the damage to the skin. The problem with doing this is that these histamine depleted cells are now sending a signal to all of the other histiocytes in your body to come to the site that you just scratched and soon the itching will return. aaaaarrrrrrghhhhh. My sister taught me that you can get the same temporary relief from very hot water - the itching subsides for awhile but then the cycle starts all over again. It is better to not get this itch-scratch process started because the rash will get much worse and take longer to resolve.

A natural remedy you can try to cure your psoriasis is described here: http://psoriasis.toptips.org
Seeking relief from psoriasis can be a lifelong quest. You can search everywhere for the perfect cure and never quite find it. There are plenty of medications, creams, pastes, gels, and lotions out there, but they don’t always work and they can be pricy. It gets time consuming and expensive to dab a lotion all over the body two to three times a day or take a pill every day. Most people just want something that is quick, simple, cheap, and works.
There are actually some things you can start doing for yourself that might help with psoriasis and slow down the onset of another outbreak. Things you can change around the house or personally, that don’t cost you an extra cent.
As I said above a good site where you can find many interesting tips is: http://psoriasis.toptips.org

My little boy had eczema on his cheeks. I was not sure what method to use but I didn't want to make my boy go through any surgery treatments at this young age. Some suggested a plastic surgeon since it was in a very visible location but our family doctor recommend this natural guide.

this isn't really an answer to your question but it may help you to stop (i do this with my son when his eczema plays up) have a cool bath to which you add camomile's tea (use a tea bag ) the water will look rather dirty but if you relax in it it cools the skin down is even very good if you are just feeling hot .. do not use any soap ,, when you finish the bath don't use a towel to dry the affected area but use a hair drier on a cool setting this will help make the skin soft then apply a good cream something like e45 and take some antihistamine if you have them hope this helps works for my son

In order to cure eczema, the most important thing you need to do is to stop the itchy feeling to eventually stop the spread of its symptoms. It is greatly recommended that you take preventive measures, such as eating healthy foods and getting enough rest, which can possibly prevent environmental eczema factors from affecting you.
I strongly recommend this natural remedy. It's a proven method I tested myself with very good and fast results: http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=556
Hope it helps.

Psoriasis is a disease that takes place when the body’s immune system mistakenly believes healthy skin cells to be enemy cells and starts to produce many more new cells to replace these cells. This is the reason why there is no cure for psoriasis and medications applied to treat psoriasis are only able to remove the symptoms temporarily. Don't go the "cream route", it's only just a waste of time and money. Been there Done that!
You need to read "Psoriasis Free For Life" by Katy Wilson if you want to cure your psoriasis for good. Available online also @ http://www.psoriasisforeverfree.com It's a book that shows you how to cure psoriasis naturally in a few days. I cured my psoriasis permanently in 6 days after reading this book. Good luck!
