im not totally sure about dogs but with horses, they will get really skinny, fast, and no matter how much you feed them they keep getting skinnier because the worms are taking all the nutrients out of the food and growing. horses and dogs are mostlikely the same. you need to give the dog a wormer (medicine that they eat, usually a paste) and let the dog poop out the worms. if you think the dog has heartworm though, you need to take the dog to the vet immediately. heartworms are deadly and can only be treated by a vet.

They usually drag their butts on the floor, they call it scooting. If you see any thing that looks lie rice it is worms. Sometimes you actually see the worms in the stool. Take them to the vet and they will give you some oral deworming medication. You should also have them on a monthly treatment.

Well, all puppies should be de-wormed, because almost all of them have them, and can give them to you. Some symptoms of a really bad case would be: weight loss with a pot-belly, worms in the stool, on the anus, etc. They sell an over the counter wormer at walmart, which is better than nothing, but it doesn't get all kinds of worms. Please take him to a vet, he'll give him an exam, (take temp, weigh, examine poop for worms, etc.), and give you whatever wormer he needs, also his vaccinations, which he NEEDS. If you can't afford it, please take him to a shelter, so they can take care of it and someone who can afford his veterinary care can adopt him. Hope that was helpful. =)

losing weight or looking bloated. loose stools, also sometimes they vomit alot. you can actually see the worms sometimes. they can get them from fleas, so make sure your dog is protected. fleas, mosquitos and ticks also can carry heartworm too which is virtually fatal for dogs. there are treatments for both though, just go to the vet that you use and have the dog checked for both. then the vet can get you the meds that the dog needs for either kind and let you know of treatment options. dogs should always be given a heartworm preventor too.

They will have worms in their stool. You can buy worm medicine from your local pet store. Or you can get it from your vet. It is a very simple procedure. It is a good idea not to let your dog lick your face.
Good Luck with your dog.

If your dog throws up watery, chances are he/she has worms! Try buying a dewormer, that should help....if not just take your pup to the vet...it's the best thing you can do.
Sudden weight lose is also another symptom!!!
