and I had welts on my neck. It's now Sunday afternoon and my face is much much better but still a little puffy and my eyes are still a little irritated. When will I be back to normal? I thought penicillin was out of the system quickly. Do the symtoms linger for a very long time? thanks.

Oh, yes, let me add that I was on the phone with my doctor all day yesterday. He told me to take benedryl and stop taking the penicillin. I had taken penicillin as a child and was not allergic but seemed to have developed an allergy to it as an adult. We were all very surprised but it. they did ask if I had an allergy and as far as I knew, I didn't. I ordered an ID bracelet today. I'm pretty freaked out about it. It HAD to happen on a weekend, right? I feel a LOT better now. Just wondering how long it'll take for my body to return to normal. Thanks all for your concern.

Penicillin may get out of your system very quickly, but allergic reactions can take a few more days to heal. You should be back to normal within the next day or two. Try drinking water to help flush out your system, and Benadryl (the allergy medicine) will work wonders.

If you get worse, go see a doctor, and make sure to always tell anyone (doctor, nurse, EMT) who is taking care of you that you are allergic to penicillin. Your next reaction could be much worse.

Did you go to the doctor? He should have given you something to counteract the penicillin. If you didn't go to the doctor you probably still should. Your lucky your eyes swelling shut and welts on your neck is all that happened to you.The next symptom would have been your air passages swelling shut. If you haven't seen the doc you really should. Good luck

Sounds like you had a mild anaphylactic reaction. You were lucky. Such allergic reactions can come on very quickly and your throat can swell to the point that you can't breathe. Sounds like you're almost over it now...but if symptoms become worse, GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM.

Be sure to inform your doctor, and DON'T take any more penicillin until he/she evaluates you.

You need to be seen by a doctor immediately. Your immune system in freaking out, and will continue to freak out until stopped. The longer this goes on, the more likely a) you will be in serious danger and b) if you are accidentally exposed to penicillin again it will be more serious or even fatal.

GO TO A DOCTOR, as soon as possible! Whenever a doctor prescribes penicillin to a patient, they always ask if they're allergic to it... seems like you are. I don't know about the symptoms, but I know enough to tell you to tell your doctor about your symptoms... penicillin doesn't seem right for you.
