Here's another tip--don't chase the dog. Most dogs just love to play the 'chase me' game, so they will just keep running around, thinking it is all in fun, while you're panicking.
Try running in the other direction to get the dog to chase you. Yummy treats often help get the dog to come to you.
Keep the dog on a long lead--50 feet or more. You can buy them or just use clothesline or lightweight rope. When the dog runs from you, grab the line (or step on it, to prevent rope burn) and when he hits the end of the rope yell 'NO!' then call him to you, hauling him in with the rope if necessary, and give lots of praise and treats.
An alternative is an electronic collar, although these are pricey. When the dog runs (or otherwise disobeys) you hit a button on the remote that gives him a small shock. Sounds awful, but it very often works. You have to use them correctly though so get some advice from a good dog trainer.
Good luck!

Always know where your dog is at all times. If your dog rushes the door i suggest u have someone hold the dog by the collar and wait until the door is closed again. This is also a sign that your not taking your dog on walks regularly or becuz u dont walk here for enough time. A walk with your dog should be 45 minutes long (minimum)...the longest time u could walk your dog is an hour and a half (maximum). Buy a choke chain if u need to, it really helps.

A good trick to get the dog to come to you is ask them if they want to go for a ride and open the car door. I have seen this work on numerous dogs. Of course, you have to take them somewhere in the car every once in a while or they'll probably catch onto this.

You con tied your dog up on a chain or put up a secure fence line so the dog would stay off the road.

Good luck

u can find his escape route and block it so he can't get out. a post with a long lead on it that u can attach the collar to would help also. petsmart has training classes for dogs that r pretty cheap. good luck!

he needs to have what is called recall. the best thing for you to do is find a good dog trainer. call your vet and see if they have any one they will recommend. you can also try the yellow pages but check out their facilities and get references.

Install under ground electrical fencing and put on the matching electrical collars. They won't leave your yard.
