Oil is help give the cake lots of texture and corn syrup is for sweetening. Not the same results at all. You could add extra egg and some cream to your cake this will help keep it moist. You can use a little melted shortning in place of oil as well. Not alot though, 1/4 cup

No, vegetable oil has no sugar, but corn syrup does. Try a related oil like melted shortening, melted margarine, melted butter. Subtract about 5% of the total amount of oil--about 1 Tsp per cup. Good luck!

If you do not have vegetable oil, you can use apple sauce or melted butter...corn syrup will just make the cake much sweeter since it already contains sugar in the mix.

Can't use the syrup (that's water and sugar basically that is cooked to a syrup) - butter burns - if you have shortening you can melt it and let it cool, same with margarine. But if you want a good cake, go borrow oil from the neighbor.

The oil is there to make the product moist. If you don't have vegetable oil, things like melted butter or shortening would work. Also, if this won't interfere with your recipe's flavor, you could use applesauce instead of oil. Just use the same amount of apple sauce as you would oil.
